COUNSELLING CHILDREN

What is The Children's Project?

This is a service offering free counselling to children aged between 5 and 16 years of age. Our eligibility criteria is much broader for this service. We replicate that of the adult service in working with those suffering from chronic conditions, disability or caring responsibilities, but we also throw it open to the wide range of issue children have to cope with in this modern age such as domestic upheaval, bullying, abuse in all its forms and such. Our key goal is to restore the child's well being through emotional stabilisation and development of coping strategies.

It is being funded by Children in Need for 6 years from November 2006.

The Children's Counselling Project aims to provide professional counselling therapy in a warm and safe environment.

The safety and well being of the child is of paramount importance to us and in accordance with good practice all our counsellors are trained to be aware of child safety and child protection issues.

Children will be valued as individuals and treated with dignity and respect.

What Do We Offer?Sandplay

PLAY THERAPY

Play is the child's natural way of learning, it is a way of exploring the world and is a natural way of communicating. Often children can express through play what is not accessible to them verbally. Play can help a child to gain mastery over difficult situations; it can help them to find a more helpful way of seeing life.

WORKSHEETS

Worksheets have been designed to help children explore their own world. They can help to raise self-esteem and can aid in moving the perceived self closer to the desired self.

TRADITIONAL COUNSELLING

Some children may wish to explore their world by talking about their problems. This can be facilitated by either of the above options or used on its own.

The counselling will be confidential except for some exceptions. These will be made clear to both the child and the parent/guardian before counselling begins.
